ABOUT ME!
From belting songs from Funny Girl to dancing to old-school hip-hop, Ria Yamdagni has always embodied an innate desire to perform. She found solace in the presence of the stage and it became her artistic playground. She was introduced to the realm of the musical arts at the age of 6 when her mother showed her the Sound of Music.
As an Indian born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand, Ria experienced a culturally rich and diverse upbringing that cultivated her appreciation for the arts. She formally decided to take singing lessons at the age of 8 where she sculpted a powerful belt and vibrato alongside a tender soprano voice, both resonating with emotive depth. Simultaneously, Ria’s passion for dance flourished through training in the renowned dance studios in Bangkok: Studio Zoom and Urban Dance Studio, where she uncovered a passion for dance, her specialty being in the hip-hop and street jazz/jazz funk styles. She also ventured into further artistic hobbies such as playing the piano, acoustic guitar, and her favourite, the electric guitar.
In pursuit of her passion, she landed leading roles in high school including Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz”, Abigail Williams in “The Crucible”, as well as Kendra in “13! The Musical”. During her educational years, she served as dance captain of her school’s dance team, and thereafter continued to hone her skills at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy learning how to infuse sensitivity and vulnerability into honest storytelling. Post-AMDA, Ria has performed with esteemed companies like Prospect Theatre Company, TheatreNow as well as the Bessie Award Nominated J CHEN Project company.
